Alan Spragins

Alan joined CPA in 2012 and has over 20 years of experience in legal, finance, and operational roles with organizations ranging from start-ups to public companies. Prior to joining Columbia Pacific, Alan was the CFO, CCO and General Counsel for Brighton Jones (a Registered Investment Advisor), and a member of Lake Union Capital Partners (a buy-out firm focused on turn-around acquisitions).  Alan held previous leadership roles with a large financial institution, a mid-cap technology and manufacturing company, and a software company.  Alan received a Bachelor of Accountancy and JD from the University of Mississippi and a LL.M. in taxation from New York University.

Alex Washburn

Alex Washburn is the Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Columbia Pacific Advisors. Alex has been involved in all phases of the firm’s development since its founding in 2006 and sits on each of the firm’s investment committees. Prior to founding Columbia Pacific Advisors, Alex was a partner and portfolio manager at Summit Capital Management, a Northwest-based multi-strategy investment manager. He is a Director of Glenholme Healthcare Group and Freehold Corporation.

Alex is a member of the Tyee Board of Advisors for the University of Washington Athletics. Alex graduated with a B.A. from the University of Washington with a concentration in Finance.

Brad Shain

Brad Shain joined Columbia Pacific Advisors in 2011 to manage the Direct Lending strategy. He has 30 years of experience evaluating various private commercial credit opportunities both personally and professionally. Previously, he was Co-founder, President and CEO of Maxit Financial from inception in 1993 to its successful $75 million acquisition by Cash America (NYSE: CSH) in October 2010 for cash and stock.  Brad graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S in Applied Physics and a minor in Math.

Dan Baty

Dan Baty is a co-founder of Columbia Pacific Advisors and Columbia Pacific Management, Inc. Previously, Dan was the founder of Emeritus Corporation, one of the largest and most experienced operators of freestanding assisted living communities located throughout the United States, which merged with Brookdale Senior Living Inc. in 2014. He had served as Chairman of Emeritus since its inception in 1993. Dan also previously served as the Chairman of Holiday Retirement Corporation, the largest operator of retirement centers in the US and Canada, from 1987 to its sale in 2007 to Fortress Investment Group for more than $6 billion. Dan has been successfully investing in and developing private companies for over 40 years. Dan stepped away from day-to-day operational responsibilities at Columbia Pacific Advisors in May 2021.

John Bratrud

John Bratrud joined Columbia Pacific in 2019.  He serves as the Portfolio Manager for the Opportunity Fund as well as Hyak Partners, a public equities fund.  In his current position, he oversees investments in both public and private companies.  Prior to joining Columbia Pacific he served as the Managing Partner for Hyak Capital.  He is a graduate of the University of Washington and currently resides in Seattle.

Stan Baty

Stan Baty is a Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Columbia Pacific Advisors and Vice President of Columbia Pacific Management, Inc. Previously, Stan was a financial analyst for Nomura Securities Corporation. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Emeritus Corporation from 2004 until its merger with Brookdale Senior Living, Inc. in 2014. Stan currently sits on the Boards of Seattle Bank, Dry Soda, Northwest Horticulture, Optimum Energy, Simply Fun, Winemakers Investment Properties, Seattle Academy of Arts & Sciences, and the Capitol Hill Housing Foundation. Stan graduated with a B.A. from the University of Washington.
